Image Guided - Superficial Radiation TherapyÂ

What Is IG-SRT?
Image-Guided Superficial Radiation Therapy (IG-SRT) is a non-surgical treatment option for certain types of skin cancer, including basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. It combines low-dose radiation with ultrasound imaging to precisely target cancer cells while minimizing treatment to healthy surrounding tissue.
Â
At West Plains Dermatology & Skin Cancer Treatment Center, we offer IG-SRT as an effective treatment option for patients who prefer a non-surgical approach or may not be candidates for surgery.
Â
How Does IG-SRT Work?
Before each treatment, ultrasound imaging is used to evaluate the size and depth of the skin cancer. This allows us to precisely target the treatment area and monitor progress throughout therapy.
Â
Once imaging is complete, a specialized device delivers low-dose radiation directly to the cancer site. Treatment is painless and requires no cutting, stitches, or anesthesia.
Â

What Can I Expect?
Most treatment sessions take about 15 minutes, and patients can return to normal activities immediately afterward.
Â
Treatment is typically performed several times per week over 4 to 7 weeks. During each visit, ultrasound imaging is used to evaluate the treatment area before a precise dose of radiation is delivered.
Â
Is IG-SRT Right for Me?
Every skin cancer is different. During your consultation, Dr. Leslie Marshall will review your diagnosis, discuss your goals, and explain all available treatment options—including Mohs surgery, surgical excision, and IG-SRT—to help determine the best treatment for you.
If you have been diagnosed with skin cancer or have concerns about a suspicious lesion, schedule a consultation to learn more about your treatment options.
